We regret to inform you of the passing of Dr. Frederick N. Klippert, a respected Professor Emeritus in our Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia-Augusta University. Known to many as Fred, he was a valued member of our team, contributing significantly to patient care, education, and research.
Educational Background and Early Career
Fred completed his undergraduate studies at Mount Union College in Ohio and later earned his M.D. from Ohio State University College of Medicine. He did his internship at Midland Community Hospital and a residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He became board-certified in 1974.
Military Service
Before entering the medical field full-time, Fred served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota from 1967 to 1969.
Professional Career
Fred had a fulfilling career that included both private practice and academic roles. He worked at Burns Clinic Medical Center in Michigan and The Toledo Clinic in Ohio before joining us in 1991. Here, he held several administrative positions, including Section Head of Otolaryngology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta. He also coordinated resident recruitment and matching. Fred received several awards for his work, including the Georgia Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2003 Gerald Gussack Award for Teaching and Patient Care. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2011.
Community Involvement
Fred also gave back to the community. He volunteered for the Midwest Medical Mission in the Dominican Republic and took residents with him to provide them with valuable experience.
Fred's impact goes beyond his professional achievements; he touched many lives both in and out of the medical community. Our thoughts are with his wife Julianne and their family during this difficult time.
